Supplier Quality Engineer

My client is currently recruiting for a Supplier Quality Engineer to join their firm in Ilminster.

Company:

• Established in 1948, the core skills at the time were centered on manufacturing scientific optical components and crystalline materials
• These skills are still very much at the cornerstone of the current operations at Ilminster with global sales of acousto-optics, crystal optics and precision optics
• The company now works as a supply chain partner in aerospace & defence, industrial, life science and scientific research sectors providing systems and components based on a broad range of photonic technologies

Role:

• Investigate, analyse and resolve supplier quality problems by implementing effective root cause actions, conducting audits, analysing defect trends and working with suppliers to close out actions in a timely manner
• Work with Supply Chain to administer the Supplier Risk Management process and implement regular Supplier Performance Reviews, underpinning a systematic approach in delivering a robust supply chain

Responsibilities:

• Champion and co-ordinate problem solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers to eliminate recurrence of non‐conformances
• Establish a plan of activities to enable management and visibility to interested parties
• On a day-to-day basis work to resolve supplier technical issues in a timely manner to ensure continuity of supply
• Work with Supply Chain in conducting periodic Risk Management Reviews and agreeing action plans in addressing the risks represented
• Additionally with Supply Chain, implement periodic supplier performance review on key suppliers and assist with managing improvement projects
• Creation of a supplier audit schedule in support of the above activities and coordinating/performing supplier audits for both existing and potential new suppliers.
• Manage the evaluation and qualification of new suppliers & materials, i.e., closure of audit actions and co-ordination of FAIRs
• Prepare; supplier audit reports, 8D type investigations and slides summarising activities
• Promoting improvements in COST of Quality and supporting cost reduction projects
• Work with suppliers to obtain early alignment of measurement techniques to reduce the need for inspection by G&H at in-coming
• Provide inputs in the Design & Development phase with regards to supplier selection

Requirements:

• Knowledge of current standards and accreditations, i.e., ISO9001 & AS9100
• Detailed understanding of COST of Quality
• Understanding of a variety of geographical supplier organisations, particularly Asian
• Knowledge of Supply Chain expectation and interactions
• Be fully versed in scorecard KPIs, understand how Supplier Quality actions effects site performance
• Degree or equivalent in engineering or science related field preferred
• 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing or supplier related quality role
• Extensive experience of leading supplier quality audits to; ISO9001, AS9100
• Proven track record of implementing improvements using structured problem solving techniques; 8D, Lean, 5 Why’s, Pareto Analysis, Six Sigma, DFMEA, PFEMA, PPAP, etc.
• Direct involvement with supplier issues management from initiation to closure
• Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, work well with diverse groups of people and be able to function independently of direct supervision

Salary:

• £35,000 – £42,000 DOE
